Biography
The artists behind Maertini Broes are DJ Cle and Mike Vamp from Berlin/Germany. Both can be seen as pioneers of the electronic music movement in Germany since its early days end of the eightees. Both are influential DJs with international value and combined forces and abilities in 1998 to found the project Maertini Broes, which, within 10 years has developed to one of the most interesting dance projects to date.

We don’t know exactly when they called themselves Maertini Broes for the first time, but it should have been at one of their first joint clubgigs in Berlin, while one or the other was spinning records and one or the other was improvising on the guitar, the keyboard or on the mic. But at the latest in summer 98 and the start of the Sundays-event series Audiopark in the garden of Berlin’s Suicide Club cle and Mike Vamp present themselves as a duo as Maertini Broes.

Since then they are creating hymn-like Electro-Housetracks and they benefit from the huge musical fundus and their longtime experience as DJs. You can always hear in their music what fun they had producing it, especially when it’s down to vocoder homages.

Accordingly they write lively, strong and individual songs; sometimes with a funky guitar and sometimes with an 80ies-Moroder-bass. What starts as a sparse rhythm and vocal-sample-framework condenses by and- by to that kind of music that hits the nerv of the time.

The first Maertini Broes 12″ Material Love E.P. was released on Raw Elements in 1998 and their fourth release Saviours Of The Universe (PFR13) in 2000 already included their first hit. Flash became the anthem of a whole club generation. Further single releases on Turbo (Canada) and Poker Flat / Superstar underpinned their reputation as up-and-coming artist and led up to the first longplay release in summer 2002.

With their debut album Play ( Poker Flat / Turbo /Superstar) under their pillow they now slept more often in hotels than at home. They visited the entire club-equator and showed the people out there what it means to flash and that they do so the entire weekend and consequently everybody wanted to Dance Like It Is OK. The video has even been nominated for the German Dance Awards.

Remix requests followed by Tiga, Ivan Smagghe, Mr. Brooks and Detroit Grand Pubahs, who carried the sound further around the globe. The Maertini Broes became internationally demanded artists.

Since their first official liveshow at the world premiere of the german cultmovie Run Lola Run where they delivered a remarkable performance the Maertini Broes toured a couple of times around the planet. On their album world tour in 2002 and 2003 alone they played all over Europe, Australia, Canada and the US.

In between the gigs they remixed acts like Turner, Tok Tok, Sono, Louie Austen and 2Raumwohnung and Mike Vamp became part of the Remington Allstars side-project for danceable electronica amongst the brothers Teichmann and others.

In late 2003 the singles Hot (Poker Flat, pfr34) and Boy/Girl ( Poker Flat / Superstar) marked the end of the end Superstar Plaey era. The Maertini Broes returned into their Audiopark studio and locked themselves away until the new album was ready.

After months of studio work already the first single Love The Machine (pfr41) from the new longplayer became a clubhit. The album Love The Machines got finished and released by the end of May 2004 on Poker Flat Recordings.

Love the machines underlined once more what everyboday knew anyway: The Maertini Broes are definitively one of the most interesting acts and producers. There is no need to categorise their music as they always sound NOW.

Tracks From The Lab pt.3
Maertini Broes present the third part of their series Tracks From The Lab. Having begun with Tracks From The Lab Part 1 (pfr58) almost one year ago, followed by Part2 (pfr65) in November 2005, the latest instalment features three hot tracks straight out of their Berlin-based lab. Spoonful Of Lovin on A1 unfolds its beauty with a blend of cool, dry Maertini Broes sounds and elements of trance, softly changing sound tips and some mystic soundscapes, while Tulips on B1, a smart groovin deep bassmonster, ennobled once again by some impish vocal parts from the Broes. Guys Tar Far High completes this freaky EP. Playing around with several funny melodies, this track is the most clubby one in this trilogy. Enjoy this delicious piece of music! Tracks From The Lab pt.3 contains two freshly crafted Electro-Tech songs. Darkroom is indeed as dark as it sounds, dominated by a super-deep synthie tone embedded in a finger clicking rhythm construction. The spoken word lyrics by Cl.. are about musical socialisation in the computer age and not to be mistaken with darkrooms - the sort we are familiar with in some clubs, Joystick on the second a-side is a reduced electro-track with a bubbling bass-line and the typical Maertini Broes ingredients on a clubby advanced level.

Tracks From The Lab pt. 2 The fabulous Maertini Broes just left the darkroom a few weeks before, went on tour with their fresh Maertini Broes DJ Lab and collected some wicked impressions to get back to their lab and to work on this exciting EP. And here it is, the stunning result of their jammin studio sessions: Tracks From The Lab part 2! This time we have three fantastic Maertini Broesers pressed on this high-end vinyl. The joy starts with SID on the a-side. Playing around with their chemical kit, some friends of the Br..s claimed to have made a groundbreaking discovery. They found SID as a substitute for LSD /Acid. The Br..s worked out the acid very well in this track. Warm regards to Dr. Hofmann. The b-side serves two more unique tidbits. On B1 its W.T.U.S., dedicated to the very special moments in Berlins clubland where the sun hits the windowpanes. At the end of the break the voice sings What The Underground Says - any questions? Lovehandles tops this EP. This one was inspired by one of the Br..s beloved lunch spot around the corner. Its name is H..ftengold, what can be translated as love handles… Enjoy these delicious tracks from the lab part 2!

tracks from the lab Hurrey, the Broes are back! Since their brilliant second album Love The Machines (pfrcd12/pfrlp12), the two singles Love The Machine (pfr41) and (She’s) Heavy Metal (pfr49) and an extensive tour (all in 2004) Mike Vamp and Cl.. took almost no time off. On the last station of their Love The Machines World Tour they revamped their live appearance and started the Maertini Broes DJ Lab merging the best from both worlds - their DJ-team sets and the live performances - to a homogeneous clubshow.
